I don't know whether to laugh or cry

Emma Grace just crawled over to the steps and climbed the first two without hesitation. She turned around and smiled at me and started up the next two.

What? Did I miss something? I thought that was supposed to take a little trial and error. I thought she'd show a little interest, try to get her leg up, maybe I'd help her pull up, and we'd do this for a few weeks.
